Electric Works

Location: Fort Wayne, IA, USA

Developer: Ancora
Architect: Elevatus
MEP: SCO Engineering LLC
Description:

Located in the heart of downtown Fort Wayne, the historic 1.2 million square foot General Electric campus has been reimagined as a modern-day, mixed-use district. The first phase of the project transforms 10 historic manufacturing buildings and the construction of one additional building on the western portion of the campus into a lively 730,000+ square-foot innovation district for office, education, retail, residential, hospitality, and entertainment uses. The project will also include space for the Fort Wayne Community School District, which will open a new grade 9-12 public STEAM school. Additional uses will include a workforce development training center, primary healthcare offices, a pharmacy, and additional office spaces. The new complex will also include over 100,000 square feet of innovation, food hall, and event space, helping to reactivate the complex as a new commercial destination.

Scope of Work

Our scope in working with the design team and stakeholders was to develop the site, special features, community art and exterior building lighting. The design team focused on creating a visual wayfinding scheme, accenting the historic architecture, activating gathering areas and celebrating campus artwork.  The lighting was closely coordinated and extensively researched to manage an aggressive budget, city lighting regulations and schedule requirements. The lighting is controlled by a campus wide coordinated system managed by the onsite campus management team.
